  abstract = {Two hands on one club form a closed chain (a loop of parts
    joined at both ends, here hand, club, hand), so a rigid model cannot
    say how the torque on the club is shared between them. This draft
    tests, on manufactured models only, whether the order and timing of
    slack take-up events supply the missing observations. A four-car
    train whose couplers start with slack recovers the driven end every
    time; started taut, it does not. A hand-club-hand chain recovers
    which hand supplies more torque above a pass bar the author set
    after seeing results only when gaps exist, no preload is present and
    the unknown side parameters (the nuisance ranges, such as gap sizes
    and starting positions) are bounded. An independent first-order
    representation has an exactly blind direction and an exact
    counterexample built from a solved starting position. Nothing here
    is a result about a golfer.}
