Privacy Policy
What this site stores, what it loads from elsewhere, and what it never collects
AffineDrift does not run a server-side analytics platform, does not use tracking cookies, and does not sell or share visitor data. This page describes exactly what is stored in your browser, what third-party resources the site loads, and what analytics exist today.
Local Storage (Usage Metrics)
js/metrics.js keeps a small usage-statistics widget entirely in your
browser's localStorage and sessionStorage. It records page
views, bibliography searches, bibliography entry clicks, and concept-tag clicks — all
keyed to your browser only, under the key affinedrift_metrics. None of
this data leaves your device: it is never transmitted to AffineDrift's servers or to
any third party, and there is no way for the site operator to read it. You can clear it
at any time with the "Clear data" button on the metrics widget, or by clearing your
browser's site data for AffineDrift.
Service Worker (Offline Support)
service-worker.js caches static assets (pages, styles, and scripts) in
your browser's Cache Storage so the site loads faster and remains usable offline. The
service worker only fetches and stores public site content that your browser already
requested; it does not collect, transmit, or report any personal or usage data. You can
remove the cached data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for AffineDrift.
Third-Party Embeds
Some pages load resources from third-party domains, each governed by that provider's own privacy policy:
- YouTube — video embeds on the

player frames from
youtube.com. YouTube may set its own cookies and collect data per its privacy policy once a video is played. - jsDelivr — pages with mathematical notation load the MathJax
renderer, and the math fonts it uses for on-screen typesetting, from the
cdn.jsdelivr.netCDN.
The heading typeface is self-hosted, served from AffineDrift itself. Pages without math contact no third-party font host; pages with math still load MathJax's own math fonts from jsDelivr as described above.
The site's Content Security Policy restricts which external domains a page may load
scripts, styles, fonts and frames from to a short allowlist (cdn.jsdelivr.net
for scripts, styles and fonts; youtube.com for frames). Image sources are not
similarly restricted — the policy's img-src directive permits images from any
HTTPS host.
Report a Problem
Every page has a "Report a problem" control in its footer. It opens a prefilled GitHub issue or your email client only when you click it — nothing is sent automatically, and no visit or interaction with the control is tracked.
Analytics
AffineDrift does not run third-party analytics: there is no Google Analytics, no tracking pixel, and no cross-site tracking cookie anywhere on the site. The only "analytics" present today is the local-only usage widget described above, which never reaches AffineDrift or any third party. Per the site's reader-analytics decision (D6), any future site-wide analytics will be privacy-preserving, cookieless, and self-hosted — for example, aggregate page-view counts with no per-visitor identifiers — and this page will be updated before any such change takes effect.
